Basic Introduction to Chakras

The main seven energy centers, or chakras, are located along the center of the body in the base of spine, abdomen, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow and on the crown.

These centers of energy function as valves which regulate the flow of energy through our subtle body system. Chakras may open or close, based on choices we make regarding our responses, feelings, and decisions for circumstances and situations in our lives. When chakras are closed, there is illness & discord--when open, we are healthy & growing.

Chakras are non-physical in the sense that most people cannot physically see them. They are rapidly vibrating vortices of energy and elements of consciousness, similar to one's aura. Each chakra vibrates at a specific color speed and tone. The first chakra is denser & slower than the second one and so on. Chakras also vibrate slower than the ethereal aura around the body, but more rapidly than the molecules of the physical body itself.

It is through the correlating endocrine and nervous systems that our chakras "communicate" with our physical body. These two biological systems intersect, radiate, and traverse in the same places that the chakra system does. The healthy direction of communication or energy flow is upward and "out" the top of one's head.

Each of the seven chakras influences the condition of one of seven endocrine glands and also a grouping of a major nerve system, known as a plexi. The plexi is divided into three subgroups: lower, middle and upper nerve plexus. Therefore, each chakra affects specific parts of the body and those functions controlled by the related plexus and endocrines.

We also have "minor" chakras in our joints and other physical junctions. Furthermore, there are an infinite number of ethereal chakras lined up over one's head and down below the feet through the earth, along the hara line, or center line, of the body. Their corresponding colors are brilliant but not normally seen with naked eyes and often described as "subtle energies." Also, because there are so many billions of them, we probably share some of these outer chakras with other people and beings!
